Jewels can be a grand diamond encrusted parure, or plastic bangles and, in each case, be part of mankind’s endless pursuit of self-adornment. Heather Peake will talk about this delectably desirable bling.

Christmas In July
The Dining Room table re-set for Christmas with the Bright Silver – a collection of fine antique silver once owned by Charles Edward Bright and Sir John Manners-Sutton
and used at Beleura during the Bright ownership. A reading of Charles Dickens’ immortal tale “A Christmas Carol”, Christmas pudding and sherry with lunch.

An illustrated talk by Pru Evans, researcher and archivist at Beleura
James Butchart, one of Victoria’s most successful but uncelebrated pioneers built his house Beleura at Schnapper Point - now Mornington in 1863.
Finding the tenders in The Argus newspaper for the ‘ERECTION of VILLA RESIDENCE at Schnapper Point’ lead to many more mysteries about the original family,

A Conversation between Barry Kitcher and Frank Van Straten
exploring the William Akers AM and Roger Myers Collection
Frank Van Straten, Theatre Historian and Barry Kitcher, celebrated dancer, will reminisce, gossip and answer questions.
There will also be a display of ballet books and related items from the William Akers and Roger Myers Collection.

Curious Things in the Kitchen
Old houses often reveal their secrets and, over the years, Beleura has not been an exception. Like other old houses there are things tucked away which
conceal or confuse their purpose, story or use. Deborah Bannister, doyenne of Kitchenalia, who has mysteries of her own to tell, and Anthony Knight
will chat and speculate about a selection of objects that will be on show to unravel and reveal their stories.

Hansel and Gretel
One of the surprising areas at Beleura is the Hansel and Gretel Garden, a Theatre Tableau. Originally created for grown-ups, this most
eccentric expression of John Tallis’s taste has been adapted for children. Children will be encouraged to take part in this re-creation which
will start with morning tea, a ramble through and discovery of the secret garden and the telling of the tale followed by a lunch party in the courtyard.
